Race Management Training

The Dublin Bay Sailing Club (DBSC) Committee Boat Race Management Course took place in the Royal Irish Yacht Club on the 25th February. The course was attended by 35 people; SiD was represented by Bryan and Martina. The course provided an excellent overview of all that's involved in successfully organising and running sailboat racing. By no means is this a trivial exercise, there's just so much to be learned and practiced quite apart from the interpersonal skills challenge aspect!. SiD members wishing to try out the DBSC Committee Boat may do so once the racing season gets going. DBSC are anxious to afford this opportunity to SiD, as well as recruit volunteers to help them out. DBSC races are held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the season. A copy of the 'race management' course handout is available on the club website. http://homepage.eircom.net/~sidclub/MembersOnly/DBSC_Handout.doc

ISA Safety Seminar

Rory and Martina represented the club at the ISA Safety Seminar held at the Outdoor Adventure Show on Saturday February 18'th in the RDS.

The seminar covered Roles of Safety Officers, Policies and Procedures and Updates on Legislation

While the seminar was informative, there was not much that was new or unexpected.

The good news is that in a safety survey of clubs taking part, SID had one of the highest ratings.
